Fulcrum Technology Creates Smooth Ride

The sole of the Karhu Synchron 2.0.

Nike React Pegasus Trail 4 GORE-TEX Mens Waterproof Trail-Running Shoes Black Karhu running shoe is the brand’s proprietary Fulcrum technology. The Fulcrum piece is placed in the midsole of the shoe and uses your body’s natural momentum to keep you rolling forward, all while reducing excessive side-to-side movement.

Karhu repositioned the H-shaped Fulcrum piece in the Synchron 2.0 to create a more flexible ride, and reviewers noticed the difference.

“The Karhu Synchron 2.0 is firm in feel with enough flexibility for natural-feeling toe-offs,” Caroline says. “While the cushioning itself feels firm in that it doesn’t bounce up and down or provide a “sinking-in” feeling, the shoe has enough flexibility to allow me to move through the gait cycle without getting in the way.”

The Synchron 2.0 is built on a bed of Karhu’s AeroFoam Nova, a liquid-based midsole foam designed to absorb more shock and provide more durability than traditional, EVA-based midsole compounds. The AeroFoam Nova cushioning used in the latest version of the Synchron is lighter than previous models, helping the women’s model to shave off a full ounce of weight and the men’s shoe about a quarter ounce. While the Synchron 2.0 is lighter than the previous version, it’s still heavier than comparable models from other brands.

“While this shoe didn’t feel heavy, it definitely didn’t feel light,” Nate says. “The Synchron 2.0 really shines in terms of comfort and durability, and not necessarily weight savings. While I wouldn’t want to race in it, it felt really solid during my 11-mile run with some Adidas miles thrown in.”

The Synchron’s full-contact rubber outsole is another example of durability over lightness. While more rubber on the outsole adds some weight to the shoe, it also adds durability. This makes the Synchron last longer when compared to shoes that have exposed midsole foam on the outsole, which wear down much more quickly.

Thanks to a unique partnership between Cheap Urlfreeze Jordan Outlet and Karhu, Karhu is able to use the data from our 3D scanning technology to help shape the fit of their shoes. That means that Karhu shoes are shaped with real runners’ feet in mind. Reviewers felt the Karhu Synchron offered an accommodating fit for all different foot shapes.

“The upper feels soft and holds my foot in place nicely,” says Max, our narrow-footed reviewer. “The lockdown fit is also attributed to the asymmetrical lacing system that reaches a bit further down towards the toes than any other shoe.”

“The knit upper has a good stretch-to-hold ratio, and the shoe feels true to size. It accommodates my wide, high-volume feet, too,” says Nate, our wide-footed reviewer who received a HiVo pair, which is Karhu’s version of wide-sizing.

If you aren't sure about your feet’s width or volume, be sure to head into your Converse x A-COLD-WALL high-top sneakers for an expert one-on-one outfitting using our 3D fit id® foot scanning technology. Your feet can be used to create the next model of Karhu shoes!

The Karhu Synchron 2.0 remains true to form as a supportive stability shoe, with a couple of tweaks to improve the ride and performance.

To recap, the latest version of the Karhu Synchron is lighter and softer than the previous version, thanks to a new blend of AeroFoam Nova midsole foam. A repositioned Fulcrum piece adds more flexibility in the midfoot and forefoot, while remaining rigid and secure in the heel.

Because the shoe uses the Fulcrum piece rather than the traditional medial posting used in most stability shoes, the support feels much more subtle than comparable stability trainers.

“The gentle rocker shape and softer foam make the Synchron 2.0 a real cruiser,” Nate says. “It’s not the fastest, peppiest shoe out there, but it’s something my feet liked for 11 solid miles. I appreciate the gentle amount of arch support that provides just enough guidance as I start to fatigue towards the end of my run.”

If you enjoyed the zapatillas de running La Sportiva neutro amortiguación media, you’ll likely enjoy this version, too. And if you felt that the 1.5 was a tad too firm or rigid, you’ll find the latest model to be smoother and softer.

The Karhu Synchron 2.0 offers a smooth, supportive ride, similar to the Giuseppe Junior Talon Jr two-tone leather sneakers and the Brooks Adrenaline 22. Where these shoes differ, though, is in the stability technology used to reduce the effects of overpronation, the excessive inward rolling of a runner’s foot.

Reviewers felt the Synchron offered a similar ride to the Adrenaline because it's a bit more flexible than most stability shoes and neutral runners can enjoy it, too. But the Adrenaline uses Brooks’ signature GuideRail technology, two firm pieces of foam located along both sides of your heels, to minimize excessive inward or outward rolling, where the Synchron uses the Fulcrum piece embedded in the midsole to guide you forward.

The Fulcrum piece is similar to Mizuno’s Wave Plate technology used in the Inspire – a firm plate embedded in the midsole to help you move forward and reduce side-to-side motion.

“I was surprised to learn that the Synchron is a stability shoe, because most stability shoes feel restrictive to me as a neutral runner,” Nate says. “But the Synchron feels smooth. It offers just a touch of guidance thanks to the Fulcrum piece.”

Who is the Karhu Synchron 2.0 Best For?

A men's Karhu Synchron sits propped up against a wall.

The Karhu Synchron 2.0 is best for runners who want a touch of extra guidance and support while still enjoying a smooth, flexible ride. The cushioning isn’t super squishy and soft and the stack height isn’t super tall, so it’s best for runners seeking a middle-of-the-road shoe without unnecessary bells and whistles. Because of the full-contact rubber outsole, it’s best for runners who are serious about durability in their running or walking shoes.

“The Synchron 2.0 is a good choice for runners who really want a stable pair of shoes for running or even walking, who prioritize comfort and durability over lightness or speed,” Caroline says. “It’s a really nice Goldilocks shoe, meaning that it’s not too soft nor too firm, and not too cushioned nor too minimal. It can work well for a variety of runners!”
