Obvious and proud in its connection, the pair attaches “NIPPON” text to its tongue and insole, stamping the country’s namesake with gold thread. But more apparent, the upper arrives covered in polka dots of different shades: the forefoot hues to a more signature red across much of the underlayer while the shapes towards the ankle prefer a darker burgundy in complement to the same-toned lining. White panels construct much of the rest of the upper in smooth leather, refining a reference that culminates with the heel counter’s overt homage to the Japanese flag.
