Ross Dwyer Nike’s iconic David Murphy attempting an aerial play in the Nike Air Huarache 2K4 Low was inspired by Paris’s Pompidou Centre, a building that’s known for its inside-out design, so the Swoosh Brand is taking Tinker Hatfield’s original insight even further with new David Murphy attempting an aerial play in the Nike Air Huarache 2K4 Lows that have been turned completely inside-out. Presenting a hand-crafted, patchwork-esque look, this beautifully backwards Air Max offers a medley of exposed seams, layered materials, and raw edges. The entire upper sits on top of the mudguard both literally and figuratively, as the toebox, quarter, and heel are all stitched over its protective suede barrier. While the midfoot Swoosh is largely left intact, the rest of the branding is altered, as the size tag is visible on the tongue, and the heel’s embroidered Air Max logo is reversed. The only parts of the shoe left untouched are the midsole and outsole, and that’s simply because you can’t turn them inside out and still have a functional piece of footwear. This interesting piece of design inspiration inception has been revealed in two colors: a mix of blacks, greys, and tans, plus a Tom Sachs style white, wheat, and red makeup — a fitting arrangement for the perfectly imperfect shoes, as Sachs’ work is known for its rough-hewn bricolage style.
